This morning, the U.S. Department of the Interior’s Bureau of Land Management released new regulations limiting the venting and flaring of methane from oil and gas operations on public lands. NextGen Climate America COO Dan Lashof released the following statement in response:
Today, the Interior Department took a step toward addressing the significant threat that methane leaks pose to our communities, our families and our climate. As recent incidents at Porter Ranch demonstrate, methane leaks devastate communities, close schools and dangerously pollute our air. To completely solve the problem we need to transition to 100 percent clean energy as soon as possible, and in the meantime we need comprehensive federal and state policies to reduce dangerous methane leaks.
